Independence from the usual bar.

In 2020 a couple of local bartenders got together and decided to open their own spot, Horn’s Hook Tavern. Drawing on the rich history of NYC and the Upper East Side in particular as a front line during the Revolutionary War, they took their inspiration from the legendary Horn’s Hook Battery, originally located at 89th St and East End Ave, the current site of the New York City Mayor’s residence Gracie Mansion.

Chef Michael Contino joined the team during it’s conception. Mike studied and learned in some of the best Michelin Star Restaurants in New York City and California’s Wine Country. He worked his way to his first Executive Chef position at the age of 24. He’s been cutting his teeth for more than a decade in kitchen management.

With a wide menu featuring American comfort foods with a healthy veggie selection, all with locally sourced ingredients from NYC, 20 draft beers, many from local breweries, and a warm neighborhood staff to make every visit feel like you’re home, come visit us and celebrate your independence from the usual.

How did we get our name?

Horns Hook, now known as the neighborhood of Yorkville on Manhattan's Upper East Side, holds a significant historical background. During the American Revolutionary War, this area served as a strategic location for the defense of New York City against British forces. It was named after the horn-shaped bend in the East River, known as Horn’s Hook, which played a vital role in shaping the city's early history.
